Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we pick up our boat?

Your boat will be delivered to you at your rental cottage, hotel, resort or in Marsh Harbour (with prior arrangements). Delivery to Marsh Harbour is weather depending, but also gives you the option of riding the ferry in rough or rainy weather and having your boat delivered directly to your rental cottage or hotel later when the weather clears. We have a dock at Calcutta and all the Marsh Harbour taxi drivers know where it is.

Where do we return the boat?

You are responsible for returning your boat to Island Marine. After refueling your boat and finalizing your bill, we will give you a ride to your rental cottage, hotel or resort. There will be a $75 charge for us to pick up your boat.

What time does our boat need to be returned?

At the completion of your rental, we ask that you please return in the afternoon by 4:30 PM. We can make these arrangements when you take delivery of your boat.

Do we need to gas up the boat when returning?

Not unless you want to. We start you out with a full tank of gas and oil and only charge for what you use. Gas is available at Island Marine and our prices are usually lower than most or on a par. Upon return of your boat we will top off your gas and oil and add the charges to your final bill.

How will we get "home" after we return the boat?

We will be happy to give you a ride.

How long will the return procedure take?

If you have rented a 17' Whaler, about 5 - 10 minutes as we can judge the gas for refueling by looking at the gas tank window. If you have rented one of our larger boats, about 10 - 15 minutes as we will need to bring your boat into our boat basin for refueling. Please note that Saturdays are our change over day and can be busy. Please add 10 minutes or so to these estimates.

What are rental boat boundaries?

Our boundaries are from Little Harbour to the South and as far north as the North end of Great Guana Cay on the "inside" of Abaco Sound (between Great Abaco and the outer cays) with the exception of Fowl Cay National Park and Reef for experienced boaters. Operation in the Atlantic Ocean is not permitted.

How much fuel will we use?

75 HP engines burn approximately 3 - 4 gal/hr.
150 and 175 HP engines burn approximately 5 - 7 gal/hr.
A cruising speed of about 3900 rpms is optimum for fuel consumption. Fuel consumption will change with speed, weight being carried and sea conditions. The slower you go, the less gas you will use. Oil consumption is 50/1

Is docking available on all islands?

Yes, there are public docks in all harbours. Most restaurants and resorts also have docking available.

What about snorkel gear?

We have snorkel gear to rent and if we run out, there are dive shops in Hope Town, Man-O-War, Guana Cay and Marsh Harbour that also have a good selection to choose from.

All return trips to Marsh Harbour will be charged a $40 fuel surcharge.
